Abstract

Since the pre-colonial period, the Far North of Cameroon suffers pangs climate. Droughts are rampant and recurrently affect socio-economic activities by causing the migration of populations. By focusing on the impacts of environmental crises in 1970, 1980 and 1996, the aim of this work is to show how people of the Far North of Cameroon perceived and responded to drought. The displacement is analyzed and apprehended as a form of adaptation to climate risks. Therefore, we discuss in turn the perception of ecological crises by people, the new behaviors that cause droughts and finally, migration as an adaptation strategy.
