Abstract

Archaeological research undertaken among the Mambay in the district of Bibémi has brought to light several traditional defense structures in the archaeological sites of Fadamna and Tara. These sites are respectively located in the villages of Katchéo and Piaga. The main objective of this work is to study the traditional defense structures among the Mambay. To this end, what interpretations are given to the presence of stone structures on the refuge sites of Fadamna and Tara? To defend themselves against external attacks, raids and invaders, the Mambay have built several stone structures. The methodology used for data collection is based on oral survey, written data, pedestrian survey and interpretation. This work involves presenting the refuge sites of Fadamna and Tara, studying the stone walls, analyzing the piles of stones, understanding the role of the standing stones and the stone circle and identifying the granary bottoms as remains of refuge habitats.
